Fiona Barltrop revisits the Pembrokeshire Coast Path

-

PEMBROKESHIRE’S exhilarating coast path has many a splendid stretch, but nowhere is the scenery quite as wild and wonderful as it is on rounding Strumble Head from the east. For the next few miles heading south the views are spectacular: an indented coastline of precipitous cliffs, dramatic headlands and secluded bays. The bare Pen Caer peninsula leading out to Strumble

Head is notable for its rocky outcrops, in particular

Garn Fawr, crowned by an Iron Age fort, with superb views. With the exception of Strumble Head itself – popular with bird watchers (and accessible by car) – this is a quiet and lonely section of coastline: an ideal choice
