Shutlingsloe
Inspiration to get away
“Summer wouldn’t be summer without our moorlands bursting into life with their annual displays of heather, which are particularly splendid in the Peak District.
“This wonderful late summer scene features the distant peak of Shutlingsloe and can be viewed from the northern end of The Roaches gritstone escarpment on the Staffordshire and Cheshire border. It’s a great view at any time of year; but between the end of August and early September the extensive heather moorland seen here explodes into colour, adding a fabulous vibrancy to the landscape.
“This image was deliberately captured in the final hour before sunset where low, oblique sidelighting highlights every tuck and fold in the Dane Valley. The pink hue in the sky above Shutlingsloe perfectly complements the spectacular foreground heather, adding the final finishing touch to this tranquil scene.”
