Lower Lairig Ghru, Summer
BRIGHT BLOCKS of vivid colour bring to life the vibrancy of a Cairngorms summer day– something local artist Rona Kant knows all too well. “I love the Lower Lairig Ghru walk as it takes in the majesty of the Cairngorms and also the beautiful pine forests in its foothills,” she explains. “This particular view I always find tantalising as it is the gateway to the Lairig Ghru, which I have painted many times.”
Living in the Cairngorms National Park means that Rona is never short of inspiration. “My family and I are big outdoor sports fans, so we are always out and about no matter what the Scottish weather throws at us. I know this area well so it was relatively easy for me to get the feel of the place.
“The main challenge with this piece was achieving the feeling of distance in the mountains while keeping the painting vibrant. I often find it hard to create depth of field as I always want to flood my paintings with colour!”
