A high level of fitness is required for this long, steep and arduous walk across what is often referred to as Wales’ roughest and toughest terrain. There is some easy scrambling (not graded), but it is never technical or particularly exposed. Confidence on steep, rocky ground including scree slopes and boulder fields is required, however. The route mostly follows good fell paths and clear hill lines, but there are pathless sections and excellent navigation skills are required throughout, particularly in poor weather.
