Staying safe while fastpacking
Fastpacking is an ultra-minimalist way to experience the hills, which means that your margin for error is reduced – beyond lightweight or ultralight backpacking.
Hillwalkers with limited running experience should start with short fell-running trips first. It’s important to be happy running in the hills before attempting an overnighter – fastpacking is a step up in difficulty.
Consider your kit choices carefully and make sure that you trust your equipment before heading high.
For your initial fastpacking forays, choose relatively short, familiar routes in good weather. Build up your experience gradually.
