(National) park and ride

-

In response to Hanna Lindon’s Does transport in national parks need a radical rethink? article in September’s issue of TGO, I’d like to say: if provision was made for park and ride with regular pick-up and drop-off to key places, national parks might not find the need to do anything drastic. Lake District is my closest NP and favourite, and I always wonder why I can’t access a park and ride from Kendal or Penrith and then enjoy the view rather than concentrating on crawling traffic.

Bus drivers are definitely better and braver drivers than I am on some of those narrow roads. I know there are bus routes from Kendal through to Windermere and beyond and Penrith through to Keswick, but where do you safely leave your car when you aren’t as familiar with places? Gemma
