Waterproofing and breathability
Modern waterproofs are often laminates, made of two or three layers. As the outer layer gets wet, it loses most of its breathability. Normal household detergent, dirt and even oils from our skin can all inhibit DWR product adhering to the outer fabric and instead attract water molecules, meaning that the garment gets wetter, sooner. This will also make it up to 70% less breathable and more likely to wet out from the inside due to condensation due to our perspiration.
