The walk starts at Dol Idris car park and follows the Nant Cadair stream steeply to a slate slab bridge. Cross the bridge and follow the path to a stile. Cross the stile and follow the fence up onto Mynydd Moel. Pen y Gader lies

1.7km away in a roughly SW direction keeping the steep ground to your right. From the top, pick up the Minffordd Path and follow it over Craig Cau and then down to Llyn Cau, where it returns to Nant Cadair.
