1 Start/Finish

Head NNE along Broadgate B5287 for 500m to River Rothay. Footpath W climbing through Butharlyp Howe woods and dropping to lane
2 NW along lane for 400m then follow lane N then NW through Lancrigg estate with sign posts for Helm Crag.
3 Footpath climbs generally N, weaving through crags to reach Helm Crag. Continue NW, dropping then climbing Gibson Knott and turning W over Calf Crag and SW past small tarn to reach a line of metal fence posts. Path SW for 50m then vague bridleway WNW dropping then climbing W to Greenup Edge.
4 Footpath SSW to High Raise.
5 SE past a pool to climb Sergeant Man. Descend NE to reach path then descend SW over Blea Rigg to altitude 600m.
6 Path descends E, passing Easedale Tarn. Bridleway continues the descent on the south side of Sour Milk Gill, turning SE into Easedale to meet the lane back to Grasmere.
