Start/Finish

Car park

GR: SX643595

Head back down the road from the car park, turning R at the church to cross the river, taking the second gate (a five-barred type) on the R to head out past Hall Plantation. 2

Pass Tristis Rock, making for the top field out ahead, where a gate leads to the open moor, and a gentle climb to turn R onto a good track that takes you to a reservoir. 3

Continue upstream, skirting the edge of the floodplain, leaving the valley floor after crossing Bledge Brook to climb gently to find the Dancers stone circle and follow the stone row. 4

In dry summer weather you could follow the stone row to cross the Erme, but in higher water conditions continue up the valley to cross at Dry Lake Ford before turning to cross Red Lake and follow a clear path to the bed of the old railway line, turning L. 5

After 200-300m, at a granite Two Moors Way (TMW)marker, take a path to the R, being careful not to follow the TMW itself (which will soon head downhill; this crossroad is not shown accurately on OS mapping), climbing instead to pass Western White Tor and continue along the broad ridge. 6

Meeting a fork, take the path on the R, following the stone markers to the large stone cairns atop Ugborough Moor, continuing beyond as it veers R to re-meet the abandoned railway line, where you turn L. 7

The R turn before Piles Hill is not marked, but once found a clear path leads back to the car park.
