TRY THE TRAIL

-

Stacey’s version of the Hebridean Way was shortened to allow for a circular route by foot, ferry and bus within the time she had left for annual leave. She and her husband crossed nine islands over 10 days with 170km/106 miles hiking, a modest 3100m/10,170ft of ascent, four ferry crossings and three buses starting and ending in Oban. Other than two nights in hotels (in Lochmaddy on North Uist and Tarbet on Harris) they wild camped discreetly each night on the route, adopting a ‘bivouac’ ethos of arriving late, leaving early, and avoiding crofts and farmsteads. Many of the campsites en route were still closed due to the pandemic, but this should hopefully have improved for 2022.
