LINA’S CHOICES: AN INSIGHT FROM THE TENTMAKER

-

Stuart Craig of Hilleberg describes why the all-weather resilience of Hilleberg’s Black Label series and the low weight of the Yellow Label range are able to cater to the needs of a prolific adventurer like Lina ....

“Lina knows exactly what she needs from her tents and how to choose the best option for each journey. When she needs all-season capability, she chooses from the Black Label series because they provide exceptional comfort in any weather. During snow-free months, Lina takes one of the Yellow Label models for their impressively low weight and extra ventilation.

“Her Black Label tents – the Keron, Nammatj GT and Staika – all have a Kerlon 1800 outer tent fabric and 10 mm DAC poles, providing the strength and reliability Lina counts on in the demanding conditions she often encounters. The Keron’s two entrances and two vestibules afford maximum usable interior space as well as maximum comfort and flexibility. Swapping two vestibules for a single large, extended one, the Nammatj GT in an excellent choice for trips requiring a lot of gear – in Lina’s case, that’s skis, kayaks and sometimes dogs. The Staika’s fully freestanding dome has two integrated vestibules and dual entrances, giving a great degree of flexibility and comfort.

“Lina’s choice of Yellow Label tents – the Enan, Anjan and Niak – prioritise low weight and are an outstanding option for the warm-weather trips she often takes. Whilst very light, they also have remarkable strength, thanks to their Kerlon 1000 outer tent fabric and 9 mm DAC poles (the same poles found in our all-season Red Label series). All Yellow Label models have ventilation built into their construction, including expansive mesh panels for abundant airflow. The Enan, our lightest tent for the solo traveller, has a single pole design that is surprisingly strong. Lina often opts for the two-person Anjan 2, which offers a great deal of space and is still easily light enough for her solo use. She also favours the self-supporting Niak, a dome tent that is both strong and very lightweight, and is palatial for one and will also accommodate two.”
