ABOUT THE OLD FORGE
Built in 1880, The Old Forge is considered the remotest pub in Britain. It is popular with locals and visitors from around the world, and has been a well-known establishment amongst hillwalkers and mountaineers for decades. Between
2012 and 2022 it was owned Belgian hotelier Jean-Pierre Robinet, who had previously run luxury hotels around the world. Following several years of tensions between Robinet and the locals, and increasing numbers of bad reviews from tourists and hillwalkers, he put The Old Forge up for sale in 2021. Just over a year later, the residents of Knoydart succeeded in a community buyout of the pub, with future profits being invested back into the business and other community projects. The Old Forge serves a variety of local ales and locally sourced food, and will now be open year-round.
From the new website: “Our vision is for the Forge to be a vibrant and environmentally conscious community-owned pub, welcoming to all and investing in the regeneration and stability of Knoydart.”
