Women first-aiders sent from sumo ring

11 Women who rushed to help a man suf­fer­ing a stroke at a sumo event in Ja­pan were or­dered off the ring due to rules ban­ning fe­males from the sa­cred space. A num­ber of women ran on to the ring to aid the 66-year-old mayor of Maizuru city, Ry­ozo Tatami, but the sumo judge re­peat­edly called for them to step away.

His ac­tion drew crit­i­cism from com­men­ta­tors and on so­cial me­dia.
