Carolina Reaper pain
A man who took part in a chilli pepper eating contest ended up with more than he bargained for. After eating a Carolina Reaper pepper, the 34-year-old dry heaved before developing a pain in his neck that turned into thunderclap headaches. The Carolina Reaper can reach 2.2m on the Scoville heat scale, and was the world’s hottest pepper at the time of the 2016 incident. As a comparison, jalapeño peppers measure 2,500-20,000 on the scale. BMJ Case Reports reveal the pain caused the man to go the emergency room at Bassett Medical Center in Cooperstown, New York.
