Men­tal health cri­sis in Pa­cific Is­land na­tion

Médecins Sans Fron­tières data showed that Nau­ruan and refugee pa­tients had sim­i­lar lev­els of men­tal ill­ness, far higher than MSF projects else­where.

Stigma and a lack of un­der­stand­ing of men­tal ill­ness was lead­ing to poor health­care for both co­horts on the is­land, but Nau­ruan pa­tients im­proved un­der MSF treat­ment while refugees and asy­lum seek­ers did not.
