ITV is left trailing in programme awards

ITV has picked up just nine nomination­s for this year’s Royal Television Society Programme Awards, while the BBC and Channel 4 have 64 between them.

The BBC has 39 nomination­s for shows including DoctorWho, Strictly Come Dancing and Top Gear.

Meanwhile, Channel 4 and its digital sister channels, E4 and More 4, are in the running for 25 awards.

Nominated Scots include David Tennant in the Best Actor category for Doctor Who and Recovery, Peter Capaldi in Best Comedy Performanc­e for The Thick Of It, Andrew Marr’s History of Modern Britain in the History category, and chef Gordon Ramsay in Features and Lifestyle Series for Gordon Ramsay’s F Word.

ITV’s nominees include presenters Ant and Dec, who are up for Best Entertainm­ent Performanc­e in I’m A Celebrity and Saturday Night Takeaway.

The broadcaste­r also has two of the three best soap nomination­s, for Coronation Street and The Bill – the other contender is BBC1 medical drama Holby City.

The winners are due to be announced on March 19 in a ceremony at London’s Grosvenor House Hotel.
