Labour launches new ‘family’ policies

LABOUR l e a d e r We n d y Alexander yesterday launched a series of family-friendly policies that are intended to put children first.

Ms Alexander unveiled a series of proposals, including providing nursery spaces for all vulnerable two-year-olds.

Labour also wants to see more practical support for parents, including a national telephone advice line providing support for all mothers and fathers.

The party is also calling for a network of family learning centres, which would provide childcare, help mothers and fathers develop their parenting skills and also provide back to work training for parents.

It also wants more safe, super vised play areas for youngsters to enjoy.

The plans are contained in the document A Positive Start for Every Child, launched by Ms Alexander in Edinburgh yesterday.
