In need of help
SIMON Lord in NewZealand passes on a newspaper cutting about police complaining about the 111 emergency service – the equivalent of our 999 – being abused by the public. Among the calls they received were:
A bride in Christchurch, panicked by a large oil stain on her wedding dress.
A man who had two hedgehogs fighting on his lawn.
A woman in Rotorua, in a rush to get to a garden party, asking for help to thread a needle.
A man who rang to say there was a cow at his letterbox and he was scared.
