Festival to celebrate Scots design
LEADING furniture makers and textiles companies from across Scotland join forces this week to produce a one-off design exhibition.
The 45 companies, which include Timorous Beasties, Calzeat and Begg Scotland, take their creations to Clerkenwell Design Week in London to present the Scottish Furniture and Interiors Exhibition.
It is the first time Textiles Scotland and the Scottish Furniture Makers’ Association have joined forces to present the exhibition.
The three-day London festival celebrates design through workshops, presentations, product launches and debate.
The event, which starts tomorrow and runs until May 24, is in its third year and last year was attended by 24,000 people.
The Scottish Furniture and Interiors Exhibition will include offerings from Scottish textile makers such as Jilli Blackwood and internationally recognised furniture makers such as Daniel Lacey and John Galvin Design. Harris Tweed, Clockhouse Furniture and Ralph Christie will make one-off exclusive contributions.
Cathy Black, head of textiles at Scottish Enterprise, said: “Our design-led industries are at the forefront of the quality and luxury market and this exhibition will give us an opportunity to bring a flavour of what Scotland can offer to this ever-growing audience – highlighting our undisputed quality, innovation, creativity and skill.”
