Family of man missing since Hogmanay tell of ‘living hell’

-

RELATIVES of a man who went missing at Hogmanay have described the month since his disappearance as a “living hell”.

George McDonald, who has a history of mental illness and requires daily medication, vanished on New Year’s Eve.

Although the 51-year-old, of Alloa, Clackmannanshire, is a keen fisherman and is capable of living outdoors and knows the Kinross, Tayside, Fife and the Borders areas, he can also be easily confused.

His sister-in-law Jean McDonald, appealed for anyone with information about his whereabouts to come forward.

Mrs McDonald said: “George is very much a family man who adores his nieces and nephews. They all miss him and ask every day ‘is Uncle George still lost?’

“It is hard to tell them that he is. They don’t understand. Every day we hope we can tell them that he has been found.

“This is a living hell for us and we can’t sleep not knowing where he is or what has happened yet.

“We are desperate for information and appeal for anyone who may have seen him to contact the police.”

Inspector Charlie Mitchell, of Central Scotland Police, said: “We are urging farmers and anybody who may have barns or other outbuildings to check them in case George has taken shelter there.”

Mrs McDonald said: “His disappearance is completely out of character and we appeal for anyone who may have seen him to come forward.”

He vanished from outside his home at 2pm on New Year’s Eve, but phone records show he was in nearby Dollarbeg at 6.30am on January 3.

He is 5ft 8in with short, balding grey hair and may be wearing a dark coloured, padded jacket, dark blue jeans, darkcoloured boots and possibly a dark woollen hat.

Meanwhile, Tayside Police are appealing for information that could help them trace 56-yearold Kenneth Carey, who has been missing from his home in Grandtully, Aberfeldy, since last Thursday. l A new sighting has been confirmed in the search for missing Stirling University David O’Halloran, 18.

He was picked up on CCTV in Bridge of Allan, after the previous last official sighting recorded of him after leaving a nightclub in Stirling on January 18.
