Fresh storm engulfs Libdem chief
YESTERDAY, Nick Clegg appeared, winking, on the front of a glossy Sunday magazine under the headline “Would I Lie to You?”
Within hours the Liberal Democrat leader found himself at the centre of a storm about what he knew and when about claims of sexual harassment engulfing the party.
Some commentators have questioned the timing of the allegations, as the LibDems attempt to win a crucial Westminster by-election.
However, it is clear these accusations have been a long time coming – years in fact.
Nonetheless, the questions now surrounding Mr Clegg could scarcely have come at a worse time for the leader.
Weeks ago he began a much lampooned stint as a weekly phone-in radio presenter, as aides attempt to exhaust public hostility towards him.
His humiliating apology for his U-turn on increasing tuition fees in England, which at one point was set to music and even threatened to trouble the charts, did not help.
He faced a storm recently as he failed to rule out sending his children to private school.
But thoughts of a leadership challenge are still far off.
