Woman killed in city home blaze
AN investigation is under way after a woman was killed in a fire at a housing complex in Glasgow.
Strathclyde Fire and Rescue said the fire started in the ground-floor kitchen area, with the woman’s body found following a search of the property, managed by Blackwood Homes.
The housing complex, in Riddrie in the city’s east end, specialises in accommodation for people with disabilities.
It is not clear what caused the fire, and a joint investigation between Strathclyde Fire and Rescue and Strathclyde Police has been launched.
A Strathclyde Police spokeswoman said a full report would be sent to the procurator-fiscal.
A spokeswoman for Blackwood Homes, said: “Blackwood is deeply saddened at the news one of our tenants has died in a fire at their home. Our thoughts are with the tenant’s family at this very sad time.”
Earlier, more than 30 firefighters had tackled a blaze at the derelict Westercommon Primary, also in Glasgow’s east end.
A spokeman for the fire brigade stressed the importance of fitting smoke alarms following the fatal blaze.
