-

SOME of Glasgow’s biggest footballing names have called on the city’s men to take part in a charity run this summer.

Rangers boss Ally McCoist, former Celtic legend Jackie McNamara and Partick Thistle midfielder Stuart Bannigan all threw their support behind the Men’s 10k, due to be held at Bellahouston Park.

The race will take place on June 16, Father’s Day, and is organised by Men’s Health Forum Scotland (MHFS) in an attempt to promote a healthier lifestyle among Scotland’s men.

McCoist said Rangers wished all those entering the very best of luck.

He added: “It is always a fantastic event and I know many will be running in aid of worthwhile charities. I encourage as many men as possible to sign up, enjoy the exercise, and take part.”

Bannigan, encouraging potential competitors, said: “You can do it. It’s maybe an idea to get a group of your friends together and you all do it together. It could be a great day out.”

Dundee United manager McNamarasaid: “As someone who set up the tlc-therapy company specifically to help people with fitness and health awareness I know the importance of this subject and I would encourage men to get involved in this fantastic yet fun event.”

For the first time, this year’s event will also include a 1km rascal’s run for children younger than 14, while promoters said various other family entertainment will be put on throughout the day.
