Anger at two-way toilet mirrors

-

POLICE have been called in to investigate a nightclub after it reportedly installed a two-way mirror in the ladies’ toilet.

Revellers at The Shimmy Club, in Glasgow’s Royal Exchange Square, were horrified when they learned male drinkers could see behind closed doors.

Clubbers reported that the club installed the mirrors – similar to those used by police when interviewing suspects – between the toilets and a function room.

A spokesman for Glasgow Licensing Board s ai d: “Complaints have been r e c e i ve d about these premises and licensing standards of f i c e rs are currently investigating.”

Police Scotland al s o confirmed officers were investigating. A police spokesman said: “We are investigating these mirrors after receiving complaints.”

Glasgow MSP Drew Smith said he was concerned about the set-up. Mr Smith has written to the city council to ask if licensing provisions are being broken.

He has also expressed his concerns to Scottish Justice Secretary Kenny MacAskill.

Mr Smith said: “I think most of us find the concept of a voyeur toilet disturbing.”

No-one from the G1 Group was available to comment.

However, a post on the c l ub’s Facebook page stated: “The Shimmy Club’s two-way mirror is a design feature created as a bit of fun.”
