THE grieving family of a boy who died following a crash between his bicycle and a mobile crane have paid tribute to their much-loved “ray of sunshine”.

Kyle Allan, eight, from the Northfield area of Aberdeen, died in hospital after the incident in the city on Tuesday evening.

His family, including parents Kelly, 36, and Jamie, 40, said the schoolboy was someone who was “always smiling”.

They said: “He was a muchloved son, grandson, nephew, brother, cousin and friend to many. He will be greatly missed and was known to us all as a ray of sunshine.

“Kyle loved to be outside playing football with friends or on his bike. We would like to thank everyone who assisted at the scene including medical and emergency services staff and members of the public.”

The family statement was also issued in the name of his twin sister, Morgan, and younger brothers Ryan, seven, and Jack, two.

Police were called to Great Northern Road near the Haudagain roundabout just after 7.30pm yesterday.

Kyle was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary but died of his injuries a short time later.

The road was closed between its junction with the A90 and St Machar Drive for seven hours.

The mobile crane has since been moved from the site.

In the statement, released by Police Scotland, Kyle’s family asked for privacy and said their thoughts were also with the driver. Mrs Allan first found out her son was in trouble when his brother, Ryan, came running into their home shouting that Kyle had been run over by a crane.

Kyle had been playing hide-andseek with Ryan and another friend and was trying to flee on his bike when he went down a hill, but was unable to stop, going on to the main road and under a crane.

Earlier, Mrs Allan, speaking from her home half-a-mile from where Kyle died, said: “His brother Ryan was there at the time. He saw it all happen and he came running back crying, to me to tell me what happened.

“They were playing hide-andseek in a car park further along from the accident and Kyle had gone down a small lane to hide, couldn’t stop and went flying down on to the main road where there was a crane coming along.”

Mrs Allan said she did not blame the crane driver for the death of her son – who was in fourth year at Manor Park Primary School – and labelled it a tragic accident, although she said Kyle had never gone so close to the main road to play before.
