Too many wind farms

-

BEN More Assynt is the most spectacular set of hills in the north of Scotland and they dominate Sutherland and Ross-shire (“Tensions rise over wind farm plans for Highlands”, The Herald, May 18).

For any planning decision to be made on placing wind turbines along this ridge, the planning visit should be made in mid-winter so the majestic grandeur of this wonderful, unspoilt area can be appreciated.

As is usual up here, both estates are owned by absentee landowners. We are already suffering an unacceptable level of wind farms in our area, purely because the area is adjacent to the upgraded electrical infrastructure that SSE has installed at the Shin power station, so connection will be guaranteed without any delay or extra expense.

As a result of this we have far too many turbines in our area.

I am not against wind energy but the cynical applications by absentee landowners are stacking up and I don’t believe Highland Council has the resources to deal with this greed.

The Glenmorie application will have 38 kilometres of roads built, again on pristine wild land. What colossal short-sighted arrogance.

The one thing we have in the Highlands is awesome scenery, this is slowly being destroyed, and it is terribly sad for local people and visitors alike.
