Truck driver escapes with minor injuries

-

A DRIVER had a lucky escape after his lorry crashed into the front of a house and landed upside down in the garden.

The cab came off the road and ploughed into the property in the village of Lonmay in Aberdeenshire yesterday afternoon.

The trailer landed inside the house and the cab flipped over on to its roof, narrowly missing a 4x4 parked in front of a garage on the driveway.

Police said there was no-one in the building at the time of the collision.

The driver was understood to have survived the crash with minor injuries but was taken to hospital to be checked over.

The lorry driver works for Duncan Adams transport, described on the company website as one of the largest privately owned distribution firms in Scotland.

A spokeswoman said they were still waiting for details of the inci- dent but said the driver did not appear to be seriously injured. She said: “He is in hospital but the guys are saying he’s fine.”

The accident happened on the A90, a busy road between Aberdeen and Peterhead, shortly after 1:30pm.

The lorry came off the road at a bend and was believed to have ploughed through crash barriers into the side of a house.

Astructural engineer was called out to the scene to assess the damage and a crane operator arrived to remove the large vehicle from the scene.

Police described the lorry driver as “walking wounded” yesterday.

A spokeswoman said: “The A90 at Lonmay, Fraserburgh is currently closed following a road traffic collision. “Local diversions are in place. “A lorry has overturned in Lonmay and the road will be closed for some time while emergency services respond.”
