Allan Munro in sales partnership with eco-homebuilder Weberhaus
AVIEMORE-based Allan Munro Construction has signed a partnership with WeberHaus to bring the German firm’s eco-homes to the north of Scotland.
WeberHaus has selected the firm as its sales agent and building partner in Scotland after concluding the Highlands and Islands and the north-east are the ideal locations for its high-spec, super-insulated homes.
The homes, which are prefabricated in Germany, feature triple glazing, with buyers able to opt for traditional heating and power or low-carbon alternatives such as geothermal energy or biomass boilers.
WeberHaus and Allan Munro are expected to announce in the next couple of weeks that the first homes to go up under the partnership have been sold in Aberdeen and Aberdeenshire.
Allan Munro is al s o believed to be considering developing a small group of WeberHaus homes in Aviemore.
A price range has still to be disclosed, though the quality of the homes’ specification is likely to dictate that they are slightly more expensive than traditional new builds.
WeberHaus, which has been building homes for more than 50 years, is active in the housing market in the south east of England. Buyers typically visit its factory in Germany to place their order.
In Scotland, the role of Allan Munro will be to prepare the foundations for the pre-fabricated homes shipped over from Germany. The firm will also carry out the interior fit-outs.
In creating their partnership in Scotland, WeberHaus and Allan Munro are replicating a home-building model that is well established in Germany.
The deal is seen as a major coup for the Scottish firm, which has a strong reputa- tion in civil construction and home bui l d i ng across Scotland.
Cameron Munro, managing director of Allan Munro, said: “WeberHaus is one of the biggest home manufacturers in Germany and has built over 30,000 houses across Europe.
“We have already had strong interest from potential partners in Aberdeen, and we believe these homes will be very appealing to families across the north east and the Highlands and Islands, where the Scottish climate and rising fuel bill means that high quality, super-insulated houses make good sense.
“It can take as little as four days for WeberHaus builders to erect the walls and roof. Our role is to ensure the site is perfectly prepared.”
