WALLETS Marts sold 220 Saler cattle in Castle Douglas on Saturday. Averages for pedigree cattle: Bulls £4200 for 14 (+£619 on the year), in-calf heifers £2861.25 for 8 (-£349); bulling heifers £3381 for 5 (+£433). Averages for commercial cattle: In-calf heifers £1683.33 for 12 (-£17); bulling heifers £1218.37 for 86 (+£138); yearling heifers £1277.89 (+£169).

The firm went on to sell 134 store bullocks at the same venue yesterday to a top of 237.8p per kg and an average of 208.8p, while 75 store heifers peaked at 218.4p and levelled at 195.8p. Seventeen store bulls sold to 224.6p and averaged 217.6p. In the rough ring 63 cows averaged 101.4p.

The firm also had 30 beef-breeding females forward. Top prices and averages: Cows with bull calves-at-foot to £2020 and averaged £1521.43 for 9; cows with heifer calves £2000 and £1575.56 for 9; in-calf cows £1430 and £1212.50 for 8; three bulling heifers averaged £1000.

Harrison and Hetheringt­on Ltd sold 9 prime heifers in Carlisle yesterday to a top of 248.5p and an average of 223p (+27p on the week), while 9 prime bullocks peaked at 241.5p and levelled at 191.7p (+2.9p). Forty-eight prime, beef-bred bulls sold to 218.5p and averaged 191.8p (-2.6p), while 62 prime, dairy-bred bulls peaked at 192.5p and levelled at 162p (+4p).

In the rough ring 102 beef cows averaged 126.2p (-1.2p) and 119 dairy cows levelled at 94.9p (+2.7p). Eight bulls averaged 117.5p (-9.3p).

The firm also sold 2329 prime lambs to a top of £116 per head and 305.3p per kg to average 183.6p (+0.4p).The 206 cast sheep forward saw ewes sell to £93 for Texels.

Lawrie and Symington Ltd sold 12 prime heifers in Lanark yesterday to a top of 275p and an average of 248.5p (+6.1p0, while 6 prime, beef-bred bullocks peaked at 264p and levelled at 222.5p (-3.4p). Twelve prime B&W bullocks sold to 188.5p and averaged 168.8p (-4.2p).

In the rough ring 50 beef cows averaged 102p (14p), and 39 dairy cows levelled at 78p (-24p). Four bulls averaged 102p and 10 OTM cattle levelled at 104p (-9p).

There were also 2637 prime lambs that sold to £127 and 270p to average 173.7p (+0.6p). Eight dairy cattle sold to £1780 for a Holstein Friesian heifer and averaged £1470.
