Family’s pain over rail death of girl, 13

THE family of a schoolgirl who was killed after being hit by a train have told of their devastation at the “senseless loss”.

Heather Still, 13, died following an incident at White craigs Railway Station, on the outskirts of Glasgow, on Tuesday at around 2.10pm.

Police said there were no suspicious circumstances surrounding her death.

Heather’s family yesterday paid tribute to the teenager in a statement released by British Transport Police.

The statement said: “We are completely devastated at the senseless loss of our beautiful and much loved daughter and sister, Heather, and words cannot express our pain and despair.

“We would also like to thank everyone for their kind messages and support that we have received and also request that our privacy be respected at this incredibly difficult time.”

The teenager was a pupil at Mearns Castle High School in Newton Mearns, East Renfrewshire, and head teacher Dean Smith offered his condolences to Heather’s family.

British Transport Police are conducting an investigation into the death and a report has been submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.

Train services through Whitecraigs were disrupted for two hours immediately after the tragedy.
