THE SPY WHO BROUGHT DOWN MARY, QUEEN OF SCOTS

Channel 5, 8pm

IF the recent exhibition on Mary, Queen of Scots at the National Museum in Edinburgh proved anything, it was that Mary was entirely different from the myth. She was not a victim, she was not a woman tricked and dominated by men. She was a serious operator, a working queen, a woman who could handle the men in her life: the men who condemned her from the pulpit, the men who slid into her bed, and the men who plotted her return to power as a way of seizing power themselves.

Tonight’s documentary focuses on the Catholic militants who, in 1586, hatched a plot to kill Elizabeth I and install Mary on the English throne.

JONAH FROM TONGA

BBC3, 10.30pm

THE Australian comedy series continues as Jonah makes Mr Joseph look bad in front of the Catholic education inspectors. The boys decide to rob a local bowling centre using a machete, and end up in a juvenile justice centre. Starring Chris Lilley.
