‘Outrageous’ poster withdrawn

A SCOTTISH university has withdrawn a poster which appeared to mock Hollywood star Jennifer Lawrence after her nude pictures were leaked on the internet.

In a bid to promote password security amongst students, Strathclyde University, in Glasgow, produced a poster saying: “Bet Jennifer Lawrence wishes she’d used a StR0nG_Pas5w0Rd%.”

But the image immediately attracted criticism on social media. The university later said the poster had been removed and should not have been made.

An image of the poster was tweeted on Monday by Billy McCauley, who said: “Pretty shocking victim blaming here. Will you take it down?”

A short time later, Strathclyde University tweeted: “The posters are being removed now. They should not have been produced and we are looking into how this happened.”

Mr McCauley said later: “It’s horrendous. Obviously the idea behind it is to have students thinking about internet security, but it wasn’t the right way to go about it. Those posters went up all over campus. It’s outrageous.”

Another student, Amy May, wrote on Twitter: “Shocked and upset to see my university’s logo on something like this.”

Another Tweeter added: “Distributing sexual images without consent is sexual harassment not bad passwords.”

Dozens of private pictures of Hunger Games actress Lawrence and other female celebrities were released on the internet in September.

It is thought the photos were taken off the stars’ iCloud accounts.
