Wetland set to star in top BBC show
A WETLAND reserve that is home to 30,000 Svalbard barnacle geese is to star in the next series of BBC’s popular Autumnwatch.
Caerlaverock Wetland Centre on the marshy banks of the Solway Firth near Dumfries, is the overwintering home for the entire population of the birds.
It is one of only two places in the UK where you can find a three-eyed prehistoric animal called a tadpole shrimp, or a triops, one of the oldest species in the world.
Centre Manager Brian Morrell said: “We’re really excited to welcome Autumnwatch, especially at such a special time of year. We’ll have thousands of geese and swans arriving from the Arctic to fill our wetland with noise and colour.”
Autumnwatch will air on BBC2 from November 2.
