Man injures spine during beach yoga ball exercises

A MAN had to be airlifted from a beach on the south coast of England after landing on his head when the yoga ball he was exercising on burst.

The man suffered a spinal injury during the incident on Studland Beach, near Swanage, in Dorset on Saturday.

Coastguard­s attended the scene and requested a helicopter before ambulance staff arrived.

Dorset Police cleared the beach and the man was flown to Poole Hospital for treatment.

A spokesman for Swanage Coastguard said: “The male had been exercising on a yoga ball when the ball burst and he landed on his head causing a spinal injury.

“The team attended, and, due to the location, requested assistance of a helicopter before the arrival of ambulance staff who took over the care until the helicopter arrived.

“Dorset Police very kindly arrived to assist in the clearance of the beach.

“The male was flown to Poole Hospital for further treatment.

“As ever, our thanks to the public for their patience during this incident.”
