Boy’s train death an ‘accident in waiting’

-

RESIDENTS close to a railway yard where a 16-year-old boy died after being electrocuted on top of a stationary freight train have described the tragedy as an accident waiting to happen.

Kyle Bradley had come into contact with power lines on top of the train in Wrenthorpe, West Yorkshire.

Officers said they were still working to establish the full circumstances of his death.

Police said the incident happened at around 6.40pm yesterday, and added they were not treating the death as suspicious.

The Office of Rail Regulation has been informed of the death and a file will be prepared for the coroner, he said.

Local residents said they had previously complained about children playing on stationary freight trains.

One woman tweeted that it had been an “accident waiting to happen.”

Another local woman, Ann-Marie Johnson, said the issue dated back a number of years.

She added: “I’ve heard children and youths playing around near the line. I’ve spoken to them and to the police about it before.

“It’s dreadful, a terrible tragedy, I was horrified when I heard the news.”

Extra police patrols are now being carried out.

Police said: “Kyle’s family has requested that their privacy is respected at this extremely difficult time.”

A 16-year-old boy and 18-year-old woman, who were with Kyle at the time, were taken to Pinderfields Hospital and have been released following treatment.
