Woman who killed son dies in prison
A MOTHER who starved and murdered her four-yearold boy has died in prison.
Daniel Pelka, four, was killed by his mother Magdelena Luczak, 29.
His death was described by the Mrs Justice Cox, the judge in t he case at Birmingham Crown Court, as one of “incomprehensible brutality”.
Luczak was found unresponsive in her cell at HMP Foston Hall in Derby at around 7.15am on yesterday.
An investigation has been launched by the independent body set up to probe deaths in prisons south of the Border.
Luczak and her partner Mariusz Krezolek, both originally from Poland, were convicted of murder and sentenced to at least 30 years in August 2013 after blaming each other for the head injury which ultimately caused Daniel’s death.
The child weighed just 1st 9lbs when he died in March 2012.
Sentencing, Mrs Justice Cox added that “unimaginable acts of cruelty and brutality” were inflicted on the child.
In December three Court of Appeal judges threw out challenges by the pair. They rejected a bid by Krezolek to appeal against his murder conviction and dismissed claims from both that their sentences were “excessive”.
A Ministry of Justice spokesman said: “Paramedics attended and she was pronounced dead at the scene.
“As with all deaths in custody there will be an investigation by the independent Pr isons and Probation Ombudsman.”
