Final call for entries to digital business awards as firms highlight value of winning

Founded by Mr Sealey and Mike Rutterford, the syndicate has led investment­s of more than £170 million in over 80 companies, creating more than 1,000 jobs since 1992.

“The idea of applying this experience to the social world appealed to me,” said Mr Sealey.

He was encouraged to invest by the availabili­ty of a tax break – The Social Investment Tax Relief Scheme – introduced last year, which provides income and capital gains tax reliefs for people who back qualifying businesses.

The investment was facilitate­d by Firstport, an agency that supports start-up social entreprene­urs in Scotland. ORGANISERS of The Herald Scottish Digital Business Awards have made a final call for entries, with the deadline now less than one week away.

Companies hoping to be named the best digital operators in the country only have until September 3 to get their submission­s in.

There are 11 categories to enter this year covering areas such as social media, e-commerce, mobile and education.

The winners of the awards, organised by The Herald and supported by Enigma People Solutions, Ju mp s t a r t , Business Gateway, SCVO, FanDuel and Cit y of Glasgow College, will be announced on October 22 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel, Glasgow.

Hugh Lightbody, chief officer at the Business Gateway National Unit, said: “We know winning awards brings value to businesses so with the deadline for entries rapidly approachin­g we would encourage anyone using e-commerce effectivel­y to enter awards.”

David Mains, director of Enigma People Solutions, said: “There is not long left to get your entries in and be a part of the biggest Herald Scottish Digital Business Awards yet. We know from many of our clients that being a part of the awards is a great honour and a night many look forward to.”

Previous winners at the awards, now in its seventh year, include Equator, Nucleus and Storm ID.

Roy Gardner, corporate developmen­t director, at City of Glasgow College, said: “I would encourage everyone involved in digital projects to put forward their entry.”
