Education firm wins £3.5m funding

A SCOTTISH education company that specialises in materials for science, engineering and technology lessons has been backed by funding from Imperial College London.

Twig World Ltd, which is based in Glasgow, has secured an investment of £3.5 million to develop new resources for teachers.

Twig is one of the world’s leading creators of digital educational resources, including more than 3,000 short films on so-called STEM subjects, which include science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Launched four years ago, Twig now employs 50 people in Glasgow and is available in every state school in Scotland.

As part of its strategy until 2020, Imperial College has made a commitment to inspiring the scientists, engineers and medical professionals of the future.

Professor Maggie Dallman, associate provost at Imperial College London, said: “Through harnessing the passion and creativity of our world-leading academics and Twig’s digital education expertise we hope to support science education on a global scale.

Anthony Bouchier, chief executive officer at Twig World, said: “Twig has a unique agreement with the BBC and other film archives to take some of its footage and use it in short threeminute films related directly to the science curricula around the world.

“We are delighted to be partnering with one of the world’s leading universities.”

Bouchier and Catherine Cahn (COO) founded Twig World in 2009 with the aim of producing world-class short educational films to inspire young learners.
