Ten schoolchildren shortlisted for final of Royal Mail Young letter Writer of Year
TEN Scots children have been named as regional finalists in Royal Mail’s Young Letter Writer Of The Year competition, taking them a step closer to the national final.
Their letters, on the theme of What is your dream job?, were chosen as one of the ten best entries received from across Scotland.
Finalists from Edinburgh include Harrison McMurray, 9, of Tollcross Primary; Emily Goddard, 13, of The Royal High School; and Deeksha Veiraiah, 11, of YLW Independent School
They were joined by Lucy McCulloch, 7, from Glengarnock Primary School, Ayrshire; Clodagh Earl, 12, from Ardvreck School, Crieff; Ruaraidh Hart, 10; and Jessica Smith, 11, from The Glasgow Academy; Ella Marr, 10, from Muirtown Primary School, Inverness, Oliver Macleod, 10, from Sgoil an Rubha on the Isle of Lewis; and Beth Hannay from Gleniffer High School, Paisley.
Their entries have been shortlisted to go through to the next stage of the competition where local judges will select their top two entries to represent the region in the national final.
The competition received 97,355 entries, the highest since 2000. Stephen Agar, managing director of Consumer Network Access, Royal Mail: “It shows children are still excited at the thought of writing letters and expressing themselves by putting pen to paper.”
