Motorbike rider hurt after bin lorry crash
A MOTORCYCLIST is in a critical condition in hospital after colliding with a council bin lorry in Glasgow.
The 26-year-old suffered serious injures after the incident, involving a city council vehicle, on a roundabout in Pollok.
The collision happened on Braidcraft Road, near the Silverburn shopping mall, at 4.15pm on Saturday.
The motorcyclist was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University, where he is still being treated. Medical staff said his condition was critical.
One family member stated he was in a “bad way” but added: “He’s alive though.
“Fingers crossed his scan results come back okay.”
The 51-year-old driver of the bin lorry and his two male passengers were not injured.
No other vehicles were involved.
Police closed the road and put up a cordon around the site, including the bin lorry and the severely damaged Suzuki motorcycle.
A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “At this stage it is still a police matter but the council will assist them in their investigation and give them any help we can.”
Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Police Scotland.
Chief Inspector David McKenzie, f rom Road Policing West, said: “The surrounding area would have been busy around the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch.
