Motorbike rider hurt after bin lorry crash

A MOTORCYCLI­ST is in a critical condition in hospital after colliding with a council bin lorry in Glasgow.

The 26-year-old suffered serious injures after the incident, involving a city council vehicle, on a roundabout in Pollok.

The collision happened on Braidcraft Road, near the Silverburn shopping mall, at 4.15pm on Saturday.

The motorcycli­st was rushed to the Queen Elizabeth University, where he is still being treated. Medical staff said his condition was critical.

One family member stated he was in a “bad way” but added: “He’s alive though.

“Fingers crossed his scan results come back okay.”

The 51-year-old driver of the bin lorry and his two male passengers were not injured.

No other vehicles were involved.

Police closed the road and put up a cordon around the site, including the bin lorry and the severely damaged Suzuki motorcycle.

A Glasgow City Council spokesman said: “At this stage it is still a police matter but the council will assist them in their investigat­ion and give them any help we can.”

Anyone who witnessed the crash is asked to contact Police Scotland.

Chief Inspector David McKenzie, f rom Road Policing West, said: “The surroundin­g area would have been busy around the time of the incident and I would appeal to anyone who witnessed what happened to get in touch.
