Families heartbroken after two teenagers die in crash

Cousin pays tribute to ‘beautiful young girl’ killed after cars collide

- MARTIN WILLIAMS

A COUSIN of one of two teenagers who died after a car crash has told of her “complete shock” at what happened.

Georgia Gilham, 16, died at the scene of the accident and 18-yearold John Foggo suffered fatal injuries and died in hospital.

Mr Foggo, an apprentice with Highland Scotbus of North Kessock, and Ms Gilham, from Inverness, were both passengers in a black Vauxhall Corsa involved in a crash with a white Mercedes C Class car near Culloden Moor.

The collision happened on the B9006 Croy to Inverness Road at Sunnyside Thursday.

The 19-year-old male driver of the Corsa and a 16-year-old female passenger are in a serious condition at Raigmore Hospital.

The driver and passenger of the Mercedes were taken to the same hospital for treatment and later discharged with no serious injuries.

The road was closed for about seven hours to allow for police investigations to take place.

Tributes have been paid to both victims on social media.

Samantha Gilham, a cousin of Ms Gilham, said: “RIP Georgia. I still can’t believe you are gone. I’m

Laura Tompsett posted on Georgia Gilham’s Facebook profile: “Rest in peace, beautiful.”

One friend of Mr Foggo, Sophia Horne, said on Facebook: “So heartbroken to wake up and hear the news that John Foggo has sadly passed.

“You were one of a kind John! Took far too soon. Shine bright up there John. Forever in my heart. Rest in peace bro. I will always love you.”

Donna Ross, of Inverness, who taught John when he was in primary school, paid tribute saying he was “a really nice boy”.

She s aid: “The accident happened just along my road. What a tragedy. Thoughts with his family, friends and the girls too.”

The Skye and Lochalsh Rally Club issued a statement extending their “deepest condolences” to the Foggo family “on the tragic loss of their son John”.

Steven Konkel wrote: “I just can’t believe it, I’m absolute speechless on what to say. You really will be missed, you were a really nice and good friend.”

Inspector Ian Graham, of Police Scotland, said: “Our thoughts are with the families and friends of Georgia and John, who tragically lost their lives as a result of last night’s collision.

“I would like to thank those who assisted at the scene and to the fire and ambulance service for their support.”

Officers have appealed for anyone who was travelling on the B9006 before or at the time of the collision, and who may have seen either vehicle, to contact them.

Mr Graham added: “Inquiries are still ongoing into the circumstances.

“I would urge anyone who may have information that would assist, and who hasn’t yet come forward, to do so as soon as possible.”
