Olympic star Davies: Women still not allowed to age like men
FORMER Olympic swimmer Sharron Davies has said women are still not permitted to “age as gracefully” as men.
The 53-year-old, who has long been open about her own use of cosmetic procedures, talked about this disparity during an interview with Hello! magazine.
“Women aren’t allowed to age as gracefully as men and it’s still more acceptable for men to go grey and have wrinkles,” she said.
“But Helen Mirren is doing an amazing job of making us all feel better as we age.”
Davies won a silver medal at the Moscow Olympics in 1980 and took home two gold medals f rom the 1978 Commonwealth Games.
The Plymouth-born star told the magazine she had undergone a non-surgical treatment, known as Silhouette Soft, to lift her brow.
She explained: “I’d been having Botox and fillers since my late 30s, not because I want to appear to be a different age, but to look the best I can at any age.”
“This new procedure has worked wonders for me in a soft, subtle way.”
Davies has a son with ex-husband Tony Kingston. Her second marriage to former British athlete Derek Redmond produced a son and a daughter.
After the birth of her three children, she had cosmetic surgery on her breasts.
The TV presenter said she is not a fan of high-profile figures who are evasive about their cosmetic procedures.
“It frustrates me when I know people are going off to have similar treatments and are claiming the way they look is all down to eating organic food and sleeping well.
She added: “When it comes to gravity and age, there is no magic formula.”
Davies’ media career includes presenting Channel 4’s The Big Breakfast.
