Sea of flowers tribute to those lost in Nice massacre

-

A SEA of flowers have been laid along the Promenade des Anglais to mark the spots where 84 people lost their lives in the terror attack last week.

It is understood French florists and locals placed the floral tributes to cover bloodstains on the roadway where a lorry was driven through throngs of revellers celebrating their national day.

The Promenade des Anglais – the scene of the massacre – reopened around 36 hours after Thursday’s attack which left 200 injured

Flowers, cards and messages of solidarity marked the spots where bodies had been left strewn on the road in the aftermath of the massacre.

Candles burned late into the night as crowds gathered once again in memory of those killed and injured.

France enters its third day of national mourning after the terrorist attack as Nice continues to hold a vigil for those who died.

Meanwhile, a five-star hotel on the French Riviera close to Nice has apologised after fireworks were set off two days after the Bastille Day massacre.

The Grand-Hotel du Cap-Ferrat, where Charlie Chaplin, Winston Churchill and Elizabeth Taylor have stayed, stands on cliffs above the sea, less than five miles from the Promenade des Anglais.

It was hosting a wedding reception on Saturday and allowed fireworks to be set off, despite the country being in official mourning.
