Hoy deal for five more Flying Fergus books

-

CYCLING legend Sir Chris Hoy is to release another five children’s books in his Flying Fergus series.

The six-time Olympic gold medallist has struck a deal to continue the story about a nine-year-old boy who inherits his father’s rusty old bike only to discover there is more to it than meets the eye.

Four books in the series have already been published and the next one will be available in February.

As part of a deal with publisher Piccadilly Press, five further stories will be released throughout 2017 and 2018.

Earlier this year, Hoy admitted using former Labour adviser Joanna Nadin as a ghostwriter.

Hoy, 40, says he insists on being “open” about Nadin’s input despite being the sole author credited on the cover.

The cycling champion said he was delighted that more of the books, which are illustrated by Clare Elsom, are in the offing.

He said: “I’m excited to be working in partnership with Piccadilly Press to continue the fantastically fun, magical cycling adventure series Flying Fergus, which I’ve really enjoyed creating with Jo Nadin and Clare Elsom.

“Here’s to many more stories and adventures.”

Emma Matthewson, publishing director at Piccadilly Press said: “We could not be more pleased to continue to support Sir Chris Hoy and the Flying Fergus series, which is perfect for encouraging children both to read and to get out and about on their bikes.

“This is particularly rele- vant and exciting after the fantastic performance of Team GB at Rio.”

Since retiring from professional cycling in 2013, Hoy has launched a bike range, HOY Bikes, in partnership with Evans Cycles.

Piccadilly Press has also agreed an exclusive partnership with Evans Cycles for them to use Hoy’s Flying Fergus character to front their 2017 Christmas campaign in 62 stores nationwide.

Evans stores will also showcase the Flying Fergus illustration on the bike sizing chart.
