100 YEARS AGO The Swiss Federal Council has addressed a peace Note to the belligerent Powers. The Note supports the action taken by President Wilson, and states that Switzerland, which, isolated in the middle of the frightful struggle, longs for peace, would consider it a happy duty to work even in the most modest measure towards a rapprochement of the nations at war and to the establishment of a lasting peace. 150 YEARS AGO It may not be known to all readers that there are encouragements to the attentive reading of the sacred Scriptures beyond those of which we are accustomed to be reminded by our Lord’s Day instructors. The correspondent who wrote to us a fortnight ago, pointing out an error in a recent edition of the New Testament, informs us that he has received from the managers of the Oxford University press a courteous letter of thanks, together with one guinea.
