Joyful parents name Christmas boy Noel

A BABY born in Edinburgh in the early hours of Christmas Day has been named Noel.

Parents Samantha Skinner, 27, and Wayne Archibald, from Gilmerton in Edinburgh, welcomed their baby boy at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary minutes before 1am yesterday, weighing seven-and-a-half pounds.

Noel, born at five minutes to 1am, was among the first Christmas babies born in Scotland.

Meanwhile, Dawn McPhillips, 23, from Alexandria, and her partner Ross Ledgerwood, 27, welcomed their baby daughter Penelope Mae Ledgerwood into the world at 2.26am on Christmas Day.

Born at the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley, Penelope weighed in at7Ibs7oz.

In Glasgow, the first Christmas newborn was 8lb 3oz baby boy Junior Officer, born to 20-year-old Shannon McManus.

Little Junior entered the world at 1.56am in the maternity ward at the Queen Elizabeth University Hospital in Govan.

The first baby born yesterday in Scotland arrived just minutes after the bells struck midnight.

Ailie Urquhart, a daughter for Andrew, 39, and 33-yearold Lisa arrived at Aberdeen Maternity Hospital, weighed in at almost 8lbs 7oz. The couple, from Banchory, are already parents to threeand-a-half year-old daughter Neave.

Mr Urquhart said: “She’s amazing.”
