House fires claim lives of two men

TWO people died in separate house fires in the run up to Christmas.

A man died following a blaze at a flat in Aberdeen at about 8pm on Christmas Eve, a day after another death at a fire in Kilmarnock, East Ayrshire, on Friday.

In the latest incident, emergency services were called to the incident in the Nellfield Place area and a man was rushed to the city’s royal infirmary where he died.

Police inquiries in to the cause are ongoing.

In Kilmarnock, the body of a man was found in a flat in Orchard Street after a fire was put out in the early hours of Friday.

Neither victim has yet been named.

A Police Scotland spokesman said: “A joint investigation will be carried out with the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service to establish the cause of the fire, which is not thought to be suspicious. A report will be sent to the procurator fiscal.”
