Dinner lady’s plea for pupil

-

A DINNER lady at a school in a small crofting community has raised more than £8,500 after launching an online appeal to help a pupil who is ill with leukaemia.

Jordan Ross, who is in primary six at the village school in Edderton, near Tain, is receiving treatment at the Royal Hospital for Sick Children in Glasgow.

Donna Laing launched a Just Giving web page to help his parents Stacey and Robert cover their travel costs and other expenses.

By 9pm last night the total pledged stood at £8,683 after more than 200 people had gone on to the site, which features a photograph of Jordan.

Ms Laing said: “I knew Jordan so well, I just wanted to help. I couldn’t believe the response.”

There are 20 pupils in the school, including Jordan’s nine-year-old brother Ally.

Ms Laing added: “One little boy gave the £10 in his money box and said it was to get Jordan home. It’s moving how people have responded and been so generous.”
