Treble pair returning for Celtic fundraiser

-

TWO former Celtic footballers who gained cult status at the Scottish Premiership champions have announced a return to the club – to play in a charity match at the end of the season.

Ex-striker Henrik Larsson, who scored 242 times in 315 competition matches for the club, and midfield playmaker Lubo Moravcik will play in the game on May 28 in aid of the Celtic FC Foundation.

Both players, who played in the 2000/1 treble winning team, were adored by the fans and tickets are sure to sell extremely well for the fixture.

Larsson said: “I’m honoured to be involved in this game for Celtic FC Foundation, which I have learned a lot about in the past year.

“Returning to Celtic Park, where I experienced so many career highlights, will be truly special for me and my family.

Slovakian-born Moravcik added that he looked forward to contributing to the efforts of the foundation, which aims to uphold the club’s original values in helping the poor.

He said: “It’s always humbling to play in a charity match at Celtic Park, the site of countless fond memories and personal triumphs. I know what the foundation are doing and what difference it makes to people, which is why I have become involved.

Tony Hamilton, the foundation’s chief executive, said: “Our work in the community is steadily moving on with the backing of the club’s supporters and its executive and staff. Having a showcase end to the season will allow us to develop that work and help more people who need it.

“I’m sure this match will be eagerly anticipated by fans.”
